Lyonchhen visits 11 Gewogs under Wangduephodrang Dzongkhag

“The Government has the responsibility to strengthen the culture of welfare instituted by Our Monarch,” Dasho¬†Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister said interacting with the people of Bjena, Nisho, Kazhi and Phangyul gewogs on Friday.

The minister for health Lyonpo Tandin Wangchuk is accompanying Lyonchhen during his tour to 11 Gewogs under the Dzongkhag.

Meeting the people of the four gewogs at different time s and places, Lyonchhen updated the public on the developmental activities undertaken in their respective Gewogs. Lyonchhen said, “It is the government’s responsibility to allocate funds for developmental activities. The responsibility of the people is to monitor if the funds are used properly.” Lyonchhen also listened to the issues that are of concern to the people and offered solutions wherever possible.

Lyonchhen also spoke about health and hygiene, education, road, irrigation, agriculture, farm shops, gewog banks, land kidu and others.

On land kidu granted by His Majesty the King, Lyonchhen urged the people not to sell their land and to put the lands to good use.

On maintaining proper hygiene, Lyonchhen asked the people to use toilets and also informed them of the reason behind government providing 100 units of electricity for free, which is to encourage people in the rural villages to use electric cooking appliances and minimize the use of fire wood to cook their food. “The smoke from the firewood is not good for health,” Lyonchhen said.

Lyonchhen also informed the gathering that an excavator and backhoe machine each will soon be handed over to all 20 Dzongkhags, so that the Gewog centre road and farm road are properly maintained.

The people of four gewogs thanked Lyonchhen and the government for providing power tillers, gewog utility vehicles, electric fence, helicopter services during time of emergencies and constructing road. People also acknowledged the benefits of east-west highway road widening.

With the visit to four gewogs , Lyonchhen has visited 166 gewogs so far. According to Lyonchhen the reasons why he planned to visit all the gewogs in the country are to draw aspiration from His Majesty the King, who has/and continues to visit every nook and corner of the country and the introduction of democracy.

Today (Dasho) Lyonchhen will be signing annual performance agreement for the year 2017-2018 with Sarpang , Tsirang , Dagana,  Wangdue Dzonkhags and Gelephu Thromde in the Dzongkhag Tshongdu hall . After that he will be visiting Gasetsho Wom , Daga and Athang before returning to Thimphu in the evening.
